BERLIN, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Werder Bremen has signed French forward Kenny Quetant from Ligue 1 side Le Havre, making the 19-year-old its first arrival for next season on a free transfer, the Bundesliga club announced on Thursday.
Quetant, born in Paris and developed in Le Havre's academy, will move to northern Germany after his contract with the French club expires at the end of the season. Werder did not disclose the length of the deal.
The center-forward, who stands 1.89 meters tall, progressed from youth football into Le Havre's senior squad and made his Ligue 1 debut in December 2025. He has made nine league appearances this season, five as a substitute, scoring once, and has also played once in the cup.
"We are very pleased that we were able to convince Kenny, a young and very talented prospect, to join Werder Bremen," said Peter Niemeyer, Werder's head of professional football. "We want to support him in taking the next steps in his development with us."
"He has already gained his first experience in a top European league and we are convinced that he can develop his potential with us," Niemeyer added.
Head coach Daniel Thioune said the signing would give Bremen another attacking option. "Kenny is a well-trained, technically skilled striker who brings good pace," Thioune said. "He has an exciting profile that will expand our possibilities in attack in the medium term."
"Werder is a very interesting club and I am looking forward to my time in Bremen," Quetant said. "I want to be successful with the team and get as much playing time as possible."
"I am also looking forward to the Weserstadion because I have heard that the fans are supposed to be incredible," he added.
Werder has needs in central attack, with loan forwards Victor Boniface and Jovan Milosevic set to return to their parent clubs, Keke Topp sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury and Dawid Kownacki's future still unclear.
Werder is 15th in the Bundesliga with 32 points from 32 matches, level with Cologne but behind on goal difference, and six points above Wolfsburg and St Pauli. Bremen ends the campaign against Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund. ■
